Tehachapi Sawmill House

Utilizing off-grid systems and sustainable materials, the Tehachapi Sawmill House is a refreshing approach to desert living. The home is modeled after a campsite made from three wings arranged around a central fireplace. Located in the main living area, the hearth acts as a fire pit drawing inhabitants in to gather around the flames. Crank open the wall of windows and the room transforms into an open-air pavilion that expands out to an outdoor terrace. The interior utilizes salvaged materials while concrete blocks form a rugged facade on the exterior to combat the harsh climate. Aside from its great aesthetics, the home is also completely self-sufficient.
