Powerhouse Brattorkaia

Overlooking the Trondheim Fjord, the Powerhouse Brattorkaia is the world’s northernmost energy-positive structure. The office building is clad in black aluminum and 3,000-square-metres of solar panels. Its position, facade, and pentagonal roof were carefully designed to collect the maximum amount of solar energy possible, allowing it to produce more than twice as much electricity as it consumes daily. With the excess clean energy going to a local micro-grid to power buildings, electric buses, cars, and boats, the building doubles as a miniature power plant. Its interior also aids in the overall efficiency with proper insulation, smart air-flow solutions, heat recovery systems, and minimal use of artificial light.
