Portola Valley Meadow House

Inspired by the bucolic landscape of Northern California, the Portola Valley Meadow House burrows itself into a grassy hillside. Its grey-stained cedar siding gives the exterior’s modern form a rustic balance while a green roof further integrates the home into the prairie setting. Internally, the home is made up of two wings forming an L-shape. The main living spaces are contained in one, consisting of spacious rooms wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glazing. Views of the rural scenery are contrasted by the contemporary aesthetic created by concrete floors and modern fixtures. When the windows are open, the interior expands out to a central terrace looking out over the surrounding meadow.
