Off-Grid Guest House

Overlooking a ranch on the coast of California, the Off-Grid Guest House preserves the integrity of the natural surroundings with an integrated design. The home was built with the setting in mind. Not just how to capture the best views, but also how to maintain its original appearance. Rather than perching the modern structure on the hilltop, the dwelling instead slides into the ridge. Its flat roof is covered in native greens, blending the exterior into the rolling landscape. The dwelling itself is constructed from sustainable materials and operates independently providing its own water, sewage treatment, and photovoltaic system. Up entry, the interior is encased in floor-to-ceiling gazing. Highlighting expansive views across the pastures and to the ocean, the translucent facade allows its inhabitants to appreciate the scenery they so desired to protect.
