North Avoca Studio

Floating over a hillside on the coast of Australia, the North Avoca Studio seems to defy the laws of physics. Although, upon further examination, the structure is actually the result of ingenious engineering. The simple cube is propped up off the terrain by a series of reinforced stilts. Dark corrugated cladding intensifies the exterior’s modern profile. Its open floor plan acts as both an office and entertainment space, serving as a flex room for the main house above. While the entire unit is powered by solar panels, a wall of glass illuminates the interior with natural light during the day. The glazing slides open to allow in the coastal breeze while also leading to a balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
