Karpathos Patio House

Karpathos Patio House

Karpathos Patio House

The coast of the island of Karpathos is defined by mounds of jagged rocks running into the sea. Rather than distract from the dramatic landscape, the Patio House aims to blend in. Its concrete facade organically emerges from the terrain like another massive boulder. Not to disrupt the existing environment, the home sits lightly on a natural plateau, cantilevering off the cliffside and floating over the water below. Internally, minimalist rooms are arranged around a central patio. While walls of reinforced concrete protect the outdoor space from harsh winds, large openings afford expansive views of the Aegean Sea.
